Toyota van Hiace Commuter 1995 (the largest of all the Hiace models). It has manual gearbox, 2.4 litre engine, with 338,000kms, 3 seats, air-con (front and back), power steering, 2 keys, bull-bar (for improved protection against local wildlife), anti-theft lock (compulsory in WA), rego until march 2015 (registered in WA, the simplest and cheapest)
We baught this campervan from good friends and the boy was a professional mechanic so everything is perfect. We are the third backpackers in the van and everything is in great shape
for a trip around the country.
Interior
Kitchen on one side (see picture) with everything you will need (gas cooker, 3kg gas bottle, electric cool-box, 1x 10litre water bottles, and everything you will need to cook.
2 storage cupboards are on the other side with a further storage area above
it.
There is a comfortable matters, with 4 pillows, a good doona, sheets, towels
and blankets. The bed converts into a couch, and has storage areas
underneath.
When the bed is setup as a couch you can easily fit a small table inside
when it is raining, or if there are too many flies outside ! It makes it so
much easier to be able to live inside when necessary, and that is not as
common feature on these converted vans.
There are privacy curtains around the van as well as tinted windows to
ensure a good night's sleep.
All 9 windows open and the 2 main ones in the back have fly screens (which
you need in Australia)
The internal height is 1.65m .. this is a big van (for 2 people to travel in
luxury).
Equipment
There are 2 additional batteries and an inverter to power all your
electrical equipment (laptops, phones, ipads, etc..)
There is a 10mextension lead, with European and Australian outlets.
2 internal lights
2 Logitech speakers and a bass-speaker for all your musical and movie needs
(Moonlight cinema anyone ?)
There is a TomTom XL GPS, a tool box, power tools for working on the
vehicle.
We also have a fire extinguisher and a tow-bar.
We've changed the oil every 5000km (oil and filter), and we'll do it before
selling it too.
We've kept the maintenance receipts.
Camping gear
1 table, 2 large chairs, 1 stool
A battery-less torch
Camp 6 and many other books on Australia (French Lonely Planet, National
Parks guides, French-English dictionary, maps, etc..)
1 solar lamp
2 solar showers
1 gas cooker and 2 stoves
2 plastic tubs that act as a sink to clean the dishes
A BBQ grill (there are many free BBQ on the road in the rest areas)
Cleaning products
We are a young couple, and have spent the last 6 months travelling over half of Australia. It was an absolute pleasure to experience our adventure in the van
It is very clean, well looked after (we're very tidy), it has a nice feel to it, and we really felt at home.
